About Funkadesi

Funkadesi’s vision has been clear: Multicultural music can be both entertaining, and a source of inspiration for affirming each other’s humanity.  Funkadesi is humbled to have won numerous awards, including Chicago Music Award’s “Most Outstanding Band” and “Contribution to World Music” (sometimes nominated among institutions such as Old Town School of Folk Music, Chicago Cultural Center, etc.), and Chicago Reader’s “Best World Music Group”.  In addition to wowing crowds through high-energy performances, Funkadesi is privileged to create unique spaces for healing and dialogue, including American Psychological Association’s Opening Ceremonies, facilitating interactive workshops, and recently leading a 180-person conference session combining experiential drumming with facilitated dialogue and plenary address related to diversity, social justice, and inclusion.

The 6-Time Winner of The Chicago Music Awards, Funkadesi is capturing the attention of the U.S. and the rest of the globe.  Funkadesi has been hailed by Time Magazine, and even caught the attention of President Barack Obama, who said:  “Funkadesi really knows how to get a crowd fired up! There’s a lot of funk in that desi!”

Funkadesi is thrilled to have the opportunity to entertain, educate, and heal — all in the spirit of unity and seeing the world as one family.
